Christmas Cakes for the Group Strep B Charity - a Year 4 Project
What's it all about?
The Group Strep B support charity funds research into group B Strep, an infection that can cause serious illness with new born babies. Two of our Year 4 were affected by this when they were very little, and we have developed an idea to raise funds for this worthy charity. The whole school is having a Christmas jumper day for our Christmas dinner day, with proceeds going to the charity; The Year 4s have also baked eight cakes (15cm x 15cm x 10cm) using a traditional recipe, and are planning to sell them to the parent body via a 'blind auction'; the idea is that people put a sealed bid in for a cake - the eight highest bids win!

Making the cakes and marketing the idea!
The Year 4s have been beavering away at making the cakes from scratch, weighing. mixing, beating, stirring and generally working as a team to get a super end result! The cakes are currently maturing, and will be marzipanned and iced in due course!
They've also been using their ICT skills sets to develop marketing posters to put up around school and raise awareness, while another team of children used their writing abilities to write a super letter to parents! You can see this letter below. A team effort all round!
Finishing the cakes!
After maturing the cakes for a couple of weeks, the Year 4s got going with apricot jam, marzipan and royal icing to complete the cakes for the auction!

Well, the bids are in and we have raised £131.33 from the sale of the cakes!
This is in addition to the £120 raised from the Christmas Fayre, and around £60 from Christmas Jumper Day!
Well done!
